They don't care whether there's money or not in your wallet or bag, theives aren't after your cash nowadays. The majority of them know that the far more valuable reward of robing you is the information that is contained in your wallet or bag. There's no sure way to protect all your personal data but there are plenty of things you can do to reduce the chance of having personal information stolen by thieves. 1. password-protect your handheld devices and laptops. Otherwise, theives have easy access to account info that are or might be stored in your handheld device or computer. More than half of the data breaches this year are exactly that scenario: Unproctected computers and electronic devices that contain sensitive information about you. 2. Be careful with your car rental agreements, credit card receipts and checkbooks. These type of document typically contains information about you, that theives can use to steal your identity. It is very important that you keep these in places that aren't easily accessible by thieves. Shread them whenever possible so it decreases the chance that identity thieves will find them in your trash. 3. Make copies of your passport, credit cards, driver's license and other important documents, and be sure to put them in a different safe location, so whenever you lose one of these you can inform the proper issuing authority to nulify them so that theives cannot use them to steal your identity. Finally, get a credit monitoring service or anti-identity theft service, these are services that are relatively cheap but very good way to detect and sometimes prevent identity theft with relatively low monthly cost. 2This page lists a set of products that contains credit scores provided by all three credit bureaus, but on occassion products can be listed here with only 1 Credit Score, please read the details of the products carefully before you apply. | |||||||
